Just a man and his bunny...
This is Shane and Fluffy...
Shane is terminally ill with AIDS. He lost his apartment in a fire and is now looking for a job to support himself and his two bunnies.
My friend Andi and I walked by him while strolling down Santa Cruz and we immediately felt drawn to him. We didn't stop at first but when we were coming down the opposite side of the street, we saw him cuddled up with his bunny and rocking side to side, as to comfort it. At that moment, I felt a lump in my throat, Andi and I literally started tearing up.
We walked across the street.
We introduced ourselves and Shane introduced his friend, Fluffy. We begin to talk and we ask him his story. He was living in an apartment in Santa Cruz before it burned down from an electrical fire, but the Fire Department thinks otherwise, so he was left uncompensated. Currently, he is now living in an RV with an elderly lady and his two bunnies. He is on Medical but it takes him months to see a doctor and when he does, they sometimes give him the wrong perscription. As a result his medications have been making him very sick and causing him a lot of pain. He told us an incident that occurred early in the week where he was thrown out by a particular café owner in downtown. Here is the article that sums up that incident: http://humanityforhomeless.blogspot.com
I asked him if there is anything we can do to help and here is where you guys can help...
Shane is looking for work in computer tech support to earn money, mainly for propane for the RV as the temperature starts to drop. Also, if you know of any resources (ex. medical programs, shelter, RV park, organizations) that can be helpful for someone like Shane, please email him at: Maxtek73@yahoo.com
He cannot travel out of Santa Cruz but has a laptop where he can work out of.
If you can, please pass this info on to those who may be able to help Shane.
