Last night my friend Andrew and I sat outside the Civic Center in San Francisco to watch Madama Butterfly for free. It was a live simulcast of what was going on inside the opera house.
OH my goodness, it was such an amazing performance. I was sitting on the edge of my blanket all night. When Butterfly uttered the last notes of "Un Bel Di" I wanted to cry. In fact, Soprano Patricia Racette had tears running down her cheek after the last note of that aria.
After the opera was done, they brought the stars to meet the crowd out watching the simulcast in the civic center. It was COOL!
I love good meaty opera....
I know... pretty classy, McDonalds and an Opera.
