Sister Act - the Musical
Randy and I went to watch Sister Act - the Musical at the Pasadena Playhouse. Here is a brief review...
I'm sure most of you remember the smash hit comedy film with the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg. Well, this musical is.. and isn't that movie. The music is written by Alan Menken, and you can tell. The songs are very catchy and the voices truly make it fun to listen to. But thats where the fun ends. The story is kinda like the one from the movie... kinda... Its just a bit of a mess and hard to follow. Things happen so fast and songs seem to just appear with no particular purpose or function. Also, the lyrics seem a lil' novice and leaves a bit more to be desired.
I really wanted to love this show but the catchiness of the music plus the lack of a solid story just doesn't do it for me.
